How to Turn Paper into a DIY Holiday Tree

It’s almost tree time! And while we’re not busting out your holiday decor just yet, we are pinning like crazy to gather inspiration for this year’s holiday season. One thing we like to revisit each year is all the different ways you can decorate for the holidays, even if you live in a small apartment or studio. Enter: The Wall Tree  It’s a project we recreate year in and year out, and this year’s first holiday tree hack is easier,quicker and more colorful than ever.

It’s all about choosing colors you love, and adding the little touches like the perfect string of lights. Not to toot our horns but, beep beep, we’ve got a whole smattering of string lights you should probs stock up on over in the B+C Shop. #shinebrightlikeadiamond

Now, about that tree ;)

Materials:- cardstock in various colors (8 1/2 x 11 inch)- for decor: string lights! (shop these + more right here)

Tools:- painter’s tape- paper cutter

First, choose cardstock colors. Then the key is creating a guide (made out of tape) on your paper cutter to make sure you cut perfect triangles every time.

For 8 1/2 x 11-inch cardstock, the first thing to do is mark the 5 1/2-inch point and cut your paper in half.

Then, fold that paper in half lengthwise to mark the center point. You can also simply measure 2 1/4 inches in from the end. Slide the paper under your paper cutter guide. Line up the center point you’ve just marked with the top right corner of your cardstock.

Use painter’s tape to create a corner guide on the paper cutter, so you don’t have to fold in half or measure for all the rest of your triangles. Voila!

Then you simply line up the bottom corner with the top left one and cut again.

And just like that, a perfect isosceles triangle is born.

Put on a playlist or podcast, and cut tons of triangles!

Then lay them out to figure out your design. We decided to go with the ultra-layered look.

Place a piece of tape on the back of each triangle.

Attach to the wall. And repeat. And repeat, repeat, repeat!

Keep layering.

Make sure everything is lined up just how you like it. Oh, and it’s definitely time to put your party dress on.

And you’re almost done. Now, we just need a string of lights! We used a strand of Snowflake String Lights ($28) to trim our tree. A snow-covered tree, even in sunny Cali ;)
